If you think the problem is something relatively simple like valve guides, why pull the trigger on a whole new engine? My advice would be either pull the heads and send them out for reconditioning - expensive, but nowhere near the expense or hassle of a new engine, and probably easier to get done in Key West - or just do the guides yourself. If you have a good set of sockets and a torque wrench you already have everything you need to pull the heads, and it takes maybe an hour. You can get a top-end gasket set for around $70, and a valve guide tool for a few bucks. You can (although I can hear some people groaning already) even do it without removing the nose. Trust me, I just did. It's a very easy job and will give you the security of knowing you have brand new head gaskets. You can also take the opportunity, while you're in there, to clean any varnish off the valve train and pushrods. You can also replace any burnt valves if you have one or two. If you need advice on a cylinder head exchange business, you can do a search in this forum...I'm pretty sure I've seen it discussed before.
