Thanks for your suggestion too, John PHilips. Sune, I don't think I found something that would work at gates.
Sonett323, the filler hose I got from fillernecksupply.com was too thick (outside wall) to fit in the space provided. Also, it was literally too tough to bend correctly. I even inserted a spring in it to bend it that way and it didn't work. Looked like an indestructible hose.
I then checked Scandix.com (I think it was them) they had a filler hose for a Saab 96 which didn't seem to have the correct bend -- it looked like a 90 degree bend
I then ordered one from Jack Ashcraft which looked like the one from Scandix for the Saab 96 BUT I then trimmed it to the length I needed and managed to get it in place. HOWEVER, the only way we were able to fit it (I can't understand the crammed space you have to work in) was to remove the fuel tank which was really easy to take out and to put back in. With the tank out it was easy to fish the hose through the space provided and to connect it to the filler spout (which I also had taken out). However, fitting the other end to the tank still was a bit challenging but much much easier than when it was in place. So we were successful in replacing the filler hose.
All's well that ends well. Another learning experience on my Saab Sonett III.
