Saab issued a service bulletin regarding poor AM radio reception. I believe
it was issued sometime in '97. It is reprinted in NINES. The poor reception
manifests itself as static, a weak signal or a 'chiming' sound when passing
under a highway overpass. The causes could be: poor antenna ground, poor
continuity between the center pin of the antenna cable and the antenna
mast, ICE module interference, Trionic AIC interference, SID module
interference or poor bonding between the chassis parts. Repairs are fairly
simple consisting of splicing in suppression capacitors at multipin
connectors in the harness, replacing the SID module or adding ground
straps. The radio can be removed with the Saab radio tools- but they were
not supplied with the NG900 since the radio was not meant to be removed for
security purposes.
