This may be too simple, but after 15 years of 99s and 900s, I realize =
how often the tailpipe can be installed out of alignment, knocking =
against all sorts of stuff as it snakes up and over the rear axle. =
Check it out. The shocks may have been a red herring, as any of the =
tightening, replacing etc. could have just temporarily changed the =
geometry back there to eliminate the tailpipe knocking.
