Welcome to the 'net! ;-)

The classic 900 body style ended with the '94 convertible, '93 for
hardtops.

The late 900's were not inherently less reliable, in fact the 91+ 5spd
transmissions are reputed to be the best available for these cars. The
late 900's *were* more complex, with the most features. Though they may
have been the most 'sorted' models, there's also more to go wrong.

You'd be hard pressed now to find a classic 900 with fewer than 100,000
miles, after which point certain maintenance items become necessary,
things like water pumps, steering racks, wheel bearings, clutches, etc.
As long as you're cognizant of this and prepared to provide an older car
with a little extra attention, they typically have many more miles of
reliable life left in them, for a fraction of the cost of buying and
maintaining *any* new car.

I'm finally of the opinion that the classic 900's were the best cars SAAB
ever built, period. Fast, reliable, comfortable, economical, practical,
(add your own adjective now). But you knew that, that's why you want to
keep driving one!
