What year & model Saab, and what oil?

Saab does NOT recommend using Synthetic MOTOR OILS (Mobil 1) in the 
Classic 900 & 9000 gearboxes. RedLine MTL is a synthetic GEAR OIL 
and, though not recommended by Saab, many people here have had good 
luck with MTL.

In a New Gen 900 (1994 & up 3 & 5 door, 95 & up CV), there is a 
special Saab Synthetic gear oil and a special changeover process from 
the factory fill to the  Saab Synthetic. Newer (97 & later??) 900s, 
and all 9-x manual boxes already have the Saab Synthetic from the 
factory.

Changing over to a newer or fresh oil won't help a tranny that has 
been neglected for many, many miles. In fact, it often will speed up 
the final miles of a box, due to the cleaning properties of the fresh 
oil.
