I too had the dreaded dull gray wheel syndrome, and this is on a 2002 9-3 SE
with the 16 inch 5 spokes -- dirty in as little as 20 miles. At 17K, I went
ahead and switched to EBC Green pads -- did the swap without even turning the
rotors (turning not recommended on the Saab). The pads have seated fine, and
the dust levels are greatly minimized.

Re: Saab Turbo overheating: I just returned from a round-trip weekend to LA
from Phoenix (where I live) and drove the same 2002 9-3 SE there and back at
80 to 100 MPH, A/C on the whole way -- middle of the 110 degree days --
including up the mountains/hills (thank you Valentine One). My temp gauge
never waivered -- stayed dead in the middle of the guage.Ê
Check the following -- first, the fan should be on most of the time in the
heat you are describing - mine runs 80% of the time in the Phoenix summer
months -- if you have to ask how to tell if the fan is running -- it's NOT!
The noise, when idling, is very apparent.

As the car cooled down when you drove moderately, I would guess the
thermostat is OK -- so, check the coolant level, check the radiator cap
pressure (pressure check the whole system), it could be the drive belt is
loose (water pump) a bad water pump, bad radiator, or computer advancing the
timing too much. I doubt it's the guage or sending unit if the temp. reading
is fine during normal cruising speeds -- that would indicate these are
working OK.

The one thing it is NOT is 'normal'. Good luck - let us know.
