The intermittent starting and commo problems with the TCM were intolerable. I hate "limp home"

The switch open and in PARK. Drilled out the soft aluminum rivets. Note gasket seal. Don't get solvent on the gasket - it swells. This NSS is different than some pictures I've seen. There were SIX independent brushes.

Brush/contact holders come out and only go in one way. Old grease was pretty dry on contacts and bearing surfaces. Brushes show some wear, too.

The commutator strips after cleaning with Q-tips. I used a pencil eraser for some of the cleaning. Note different colors on the strips at ends where there is little or no contact (rarely use 1 and 2). Then I hit it with electrical contact cleaner.

Back in the car. Note new screws and nuts holding it together. Questions: - will it start? will I have back-up lights? (ANS: Yes, Yes.).
