Same problem. I have learned never to shut off the tuner in my 87 9000T. During its most recent asleep phase, I took the faceplace off (easy to do, couple of phillips screws) gently pried off the switch covers, cleaned what seemed to be the switch contact area with a pencil eraser and sprayed everyplace I could reach with plastic-safe electronic cleaner. It didn't start up right away, but an hour later I had music.
