I had an 83 900T 5spd I bought new and picked up at the factory. I used Castrol GTX 10W30 in the transmission from day 1. I changed the oil in the transmission every 20,000 to 30,000 miles. It was so expensive buying three extra quarts of oil...My 900T was hit by a big truck in August 95. I drove that car to the salvage yard with over 251,000 miles on that transmission without any problems..I did add Militec-1 to the 5spd for about the last 50,000 miles...When I checked the magnetic drain plug after the first treatment and change, there were no metal filings...The best thing you can do is change that oil on a regular basis...I think, if you go 60,000 miles without changing, you will be part of the chorus complaining about Saab transmissions and how they have so many problems...
