We had this problem on a previous saab of that vintage, and it was caused by a leak from the heater core which is mounted behind the dashboard..also expensive to replace, but I used a can of radweld which I added to the radiator with the heater going full blast, and this seemed to solve it (at least until we sold it 6 months later!)
