Subject: Re: oil additives (cleaners and motor up)

>Does anyone have experience with a product called "motor up"? I believe it containes chlorinated hydrocarbons. These can be very effective metal protectors for a short time--but the oil manufacturers stopped using them many years ago. I've seen the infomercials, but have never, ever seen any fleet test documentation that any of the oil additives will perform as claimed in real life use. Nor have I seen any documentation that shows any of them will improve the performance of a good synthetic. > Also, has anyone ever used those engine-flush >chemicals? AMSOIL and BG make very safe, effective engine flushes. There are some shops which have machines known as "Engine Vacs" which will do a very good job. Most of the rest of the flushes are so-so. As mentioned by the first reply, using a quart of synthetic along with the rest non-synthetic and running for 1000 miles will do a pretty decent job of cleaning (if the engine isn't too bad).
