Hi all! I am looking at buying an 87 SAAB 9000. I've always liked the way they looked & drove, and I found a guy who is selling one really cheap. Aside from the interior being kind of messy, the car has one major problem; the automatic transmission does not want to go into first gear sometimes. The guy says that this happens only after the car has been driven 20 - 30 minutes in stop and go traffic. What I observed happening is that the torque convertor doesn't seem to catch right away if the car is at a stop. You have to rev the engine gently to get it to engage. Putting the auto trans in "1" does not help. 1) Is this an expensive problem to get fixed? 2) Could I fix it myself, or will I need an array of proprietary tools and a full workshop? 3) I may be able to get this thing for about $750; is it worth it, or should I look elsewhere? Thanks for your help! -Ben
