I live in northern Canada and my 87 900 runs quite well in the winter up here. It could be the edition (mine is a Canadian edition). It did, however, have some problems when the temperature started getting below -10C up here this year. I gave it some gas-line antifreeze (it's only CDN$0.99 a bottle) and since then it's started better, run better and been more consistant (the temperature is now way colder than it was when my car was cold). Now, I use gasline antifreeze once a week (less than one Canadian dollar per bottle) and my Saab is very happy. I also use fuel injector cleaner every couple weeks or so to keep it in tip top shape for winter driving. It really does help the performance. I had a problem with dirty sparks in my Mazda (before I knew better). It turned out that a little rod was broken outside of one of the cylinders. Do you use platinum sparks? Perhaps your block heater isn't working? I know that mine starts beautifully (albeit in a couple of seconds compared to immediately above around -5C) as long as she's plugged in. I once parked in the non-plug lot at work and it took four or five secodns to start.
