Stephen, I had an '86 9000T for 11 years and 160K miles. As far as lasting, if you take care of a SAAB it can last a long time. As for safety, it was (and still is) hard to beat. As far as reliablity that's a little tricky. Mine was somewhat problematic until I stopped going to the dealer for service and found a good indpendent SAAB mechanic. Then it became very reliable. The only really bad part is that if anything breaks, the parts are very expensive, which should probably be a major part of the decision process (then again what car isn't these days). As far as insurance goes, I don't know for a 16yr old. It will probably depend upon whether it is a turbo or not (they'll probably rake you over the coals if it is a turbo).
