Subject: Driveshaft woes (rich text)
I've sent a few posts in the past about driveshaft problems and hope someone
can help me clear this up once and for all. After my driveshaft came out of
the driver cup for the third time I took the car to a main dealer. At great
expense they claim to have fixed the problem (dodgy engine mount letting
engine move around and driveshaft pop out). However, I'm not convinced.
Since I got it back I've looked at the right-hand side driver cup and the
tripod joint that goes into it. I can see that the wheels attached to the
tripod protrude out the end of the driver by about 3/8 inch. In other words
it seems that the driveshaft is too short. I know the driveshaft isn't too
short because I've bought three driveshafts and have fitted got the longest
one I can find.
Is it normal for the tripod joint to protrude from the driver cup by this
much?
Thanks,
Andrew
