Subject: whine noise

My excellent 93 Saab 9000 CSE 2.0 LPT has a slight whining noise in neutral. The pitch of the noise is proportional to the road speed, but the noise gets weaker when a gear is engaged, so this should eliminate the wheelbearings. The problem does not seem to affect the reliability as it has been there since I bought the car at 48K miles. Now at 72K miles is has become slightly louder. I normally ignore the noise since it is noticeable only because the car is otherwise very quiet, but it could be nice to get rid of it nevertheless. Any suggestions ? Johannes
