Hi, A wire brush works wonders. Careful not to tear rubber seals though. I also use copper grease afterwards on the contact surfaces between the yoke and the brake housing. If you're careful it won't run into the pads or onto the disk. In most cases you shouldn't have to remove or dismantle the brake, but the Girlings are notorious for being hard to keep in good shape. Very sensitive to road gunk and salt. I clean and lubricate twice per year (once in the fall, once in the spring) and that keeps the gremlins away.
