Subject: transmission fluid or oil in gearbox?

I had some work done to my 87 900T and they put some kind of reddish fluid in the gearbox. I thought this oil was supposed to be engine oil, and they said it was OK, some special oil for the gearbox to make it shift better. Would regular automatic transmission fluid destroy the gearbox? I can see little flecks of metal on the gearbox dipstick. I 've only gone about 100 miles, should I drain this oil and go with engine oil, or trust the non-saab mechanics that put the fluid in. Thanks, Paul Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.
