Wait a minute, aren't the front wheels doing dual duty on an AWD car? and why do AWDs do so much better than RWDs in rallys? AWD has the best traction but no more lateral grip in snow etc. (which is why you see overconfident 4x4s spinning off roundabouts in the snow!) RWD is all about having fun, sliding the back out, etc. but FWD is safer and more predictable for your average driver on the road, and cheaper than AWD, thats why most manufacturers switched over to it. Saabs are about comfort and straight line speed whereas BMWs are about handling and fun through bends and the AWD Audis and Subarus have the traction. You pays your money and you takes your choice.
