Can be many things: First try to completly plug the idle-valve, so that air cannot bypass the throttle. If problem persists, then there is something that is allowing air to go trough throttle. Check that trottle closes all the way , it might be stuck in half-open position (there is a small damper on throttle-valve that might be the culprit). Check out if cruise-control is acting up, (pull out cruise-control fuse and try again). If problem is still there check throttle-positioning switch, it's a small black thing on throttle that says "click" when it is closed (measure with ohm-meter). Check throttle-butterfly itself, it might have cracked. If nothing helps , call exorcist...you might have Christine Cheers. P.S. Remember, engine can only rev if it measuers excess air going trough air-mass-meter. This air must go either trough throttle or trough idle-valve. There are no other ways for air to get trough. bradford wrote: > > got in my 88 9000T the other day and I noticed the rmpms screams to > about 4 1/2 instantly and just stayed there...so i thought it might be > the idle becuase I had problem with my AIC...i cleaned it out useed a > little wdd40..the valve was working just perfectly anyway..no > trick...so i figured if it would be the idle i could just drive the car > anyway and deal with the high idle..started the car and put it into 1st > and statred going...after awhile i relaized i didnt even need any > gas..the car was driving by its frikin slef...and when i put in the > clutch the rpms went sky high again..i check the throttle cable and > actual pedal and everything is fine...i have heard of something called > a throttle positioning switch..could this be it...whats the deal?please > help u guys are great...out of all the problems im had this is the > strangest.. > > brad > > Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ > Before you buy.
