I traded a perfectly good '86 900 Saab in for a new '96 900SE. The check engine light came on a few miles after leaving the new car lot. I had it in the dealership innumerable times for this issue and was always told it was the gas cap not being tight enough. Mechanics I had always had good relationships with became iritated with my complaints and condescending (didn't I know how to tighten a gas cap?). I grant that the car ran fine but it was an annoyance to have this undiagnosed glitch from the very first hour I owned it. I finally gave up after 2 years and traded it in for a new '99 9-5 that I'm happy to report has never had a problem of any kind. I thought about leaving a sympathy card in the glove box for the next owner. >Can anyone suggest a systematic plan to diagnose, and fix this >problem? Trade it in, you're spinning your wheels. Karen
