Look for a complete history including all oil and fluid changes according to schedule. Definitely worth it if it checks out. The CS LPT did not have a turbo gage (at least none that I have seen). As for extra beating as a rental? Is it a Camaro or Mustang? It is not a 'performance' car, so it should not have had any more abuse than normal (for a rental). In addition, there would be no 'positive reinforcement' from a boost gage either. When driving it, it should shift up and down smoothly. It should shift down as you approach a light (4 -3 -2 -1) and you should feel it. When coaxed, it should downshift and accelerate with a firm shift. Regardless, I would have a transmission fluid change as soon as I got it. Have it done at a shop where they can change all of it. Weakest point is the transmission. Make sure you maintain it religiously and it will be a faithful member of the family (plugs gapped regularly, fluids changed regularly, synthetic oil filled to the A in MAX - a bit overfilled for balance shaft chain life, NO FRAM FILTERS, Saab or Mann filters only, yearly coolant flush and change with Mercedes Benz coolant). Have an 82 degree thermostat and fan switch installed. regards, KeithG "Smith, Craig [BVW:9R33:EXCH]" <smithcrnopsamicasm01.nt.com> wrote in message news:3B1B9992.D7700951nopsamicasm01.nt.com... > Nicholas Carey wrote: > > > > We're looking at buying a 1996 9000CS.
