Let's face it. Changing oil yourself is messy. I bet many goes to a service station to have it changed. But then we don't really know what they stuff in. It usually comes out of what looks like an old coffee pot, it could be anything from either the vegetable, mineral or animal kingdom. Even worse, the old oil is sometimes sucked up at the top by a vacuum pipe rather than draining out at the bottom in its own time. I guess many changes oil themselves and have some kind of habit. I start lifting near the right front door of my saab, I put the jack onto two computer mags to give some extra height such that I can fit a tripod under what looks like a heavy brace. I repeat the left side with another tripod, i.e. don't trust the jack for my life. Now I can squeeze under the front of the car and loosen the oilplug and drain the oil into a black plastic drainer from Halfords. I leave the car for an hour while I watch some football on the telly. Then I refit the plug and change the oil filter, at this stage oil is still flowing down into my shirt and collecting in my armpit. Now I deserve a cold beer for my effort. The used oil can be disposed off at a tel no printed on the oil drainer, I'll see to that sometime. Needless to say here, the oil should never be poured it into the drains. How do the rest of you do it? jOHANNES
