NO more Carter in this family...EVER. Sales side is typical...all smiley when you buy your new car. Service on the other hand is brutal and worthless. Case in point: 1995 VW Cabrio in last Sept for 30K tuneup. First of all I'm told approx $600 for tune up. Whew , but that's ok.needs to get done! I'm told by their always selling service people, that I need a brake job, I assumed they actually looked at the brakes. Said no, no $ at this time...they said fine and out I went. Unrelated to the tune up, there had been a starting problem, very random but sometimes would turn over just not fire up. Back to Carter, told that I needed a new $1K brain for the fuel injection. Don't like but OK, need to get the car back on the road. Ordered from SFO and installed...still no go! Chief mechanic walking past the car says, " Hey, you looked at the pre-iginition relay"...a $25.00 part...all the power from the battery to the computer has to go through that relay first! Relay in and starts/runs great....total bill $365.00 for labor time and $25.00 part. Weird that they don't know their cars better and always choose the more expensive repairs first!! Back to the brakes. I get a bit worried a few weeks later and decide that I should get the brakes done...but NOT at Carter anymore!! Off to Hobbs Service on Galer Upper Queen Anne. No problem they can have it in and out in one day. Off to work. Phone call around 10:30AM..."You don't need a brake job!". Funny, how can you tell?. The factory original paint stripe on the rear brake drum bolts have never been broken...the brakes have NEVER actually been inspected and they still have 70% lining...and the fronts are just fine and will last another few YEARS! Thank you Carter!! But, you DO need an new surpentine belt...it's all cracked and split. I say OK. They save the belt and indeed it's split in so many places that I can see through the belt in many places. 30K mile check up at Carter....should have looked at the belt? Damn right they should have...the entire engine system runs off that belt. So, inconclusion....prices to high, always choose the expensive repair first, no breaks for faulty diagnosis, selling services that haven't even been looked into, and missing critical parts during service...it all adds up to the "ABC's". Anything But Carter...for this family. Matter of fact, I bought a 2000 Saab 95 SE Wagon from Barrier and LOVE THEM!! I will drive to Bellevue, willingly to give them my money so I don't have to give Carter another dime. Steve
