Freewheeling could be fun sometimes, and it was essential to the two-stroke, but I think it was also responsible for causing a lot of harm to the fragile transmissions in the V-4 96, 95's and Sonetts. Often, at least in the V-4's I owned, the re-engagement of tranny to engine was not a smooth one. Then, of course, you could lock the input shaft...the lock-out sleeve on my Sonett use to work its way into a state of being barely engaged and then all hell would break out. That transmission ultimately self-destructed. MSS used to, perhaps they still do, offer a great, permanent lock-out sleeve that couldn't disengage. I got one, and I never freewheeled again...
