Subject: Re: Timing chain = $1200.???

The 2.3l motor has a reputation as tough on timing chains. The thing is that the timing chain is not the only chain there. The balance shaft also has a chain. These wear and must be replaced. It has been supposed that the balance shaft chain does not get enough oil and that running a bit high on the dipstick (to the 'X' in MAX) may help. If you get it down this far, replace the front main seal, belt idler pulleys (both of them), belt tensioner, timing chain. Look closely at all of the sprockets. If any wear is shown, replace them. Also inspect and replace the chain guides as well. the link shows describes this. Also, look to www.townsendimports.com and www.saabnet.com 9kbb for more information. The 9k is a great car, but does have its issues, as do all cars. http://quasimotors.gar.net/balance_home.htm KeithG "Johannes H Andersen" <johsnopsamanytime.co.uk> wrote in message news:3C9C82BF.FFF5110Dnopsamanytime.co.uk... > > > VIKINGMAN wrote: > > > > "Johannes H Andersen" <johsnopsamanytime.co.uk> skrev i en meddelelse > > news:3C9C4A6F.8FA85286nopsamanytime.co.uk... > > > > > took a full day of work.
