The "check engine" light on the dash does not light when you need
to do service. Perhaps that would be the "service engine soon" 
warning on the SID. That can be cleared via the push buttons. 
If the check engine light remains on, you probably have another
emmisions related problem. You can try the battery trick, if 
that doesn't do it then the engine is most likely still 
throwing codes. Check the gas cap for tightness while you are
out there.
