Whoa there, I have heard his before, but it's illogical. In a front-drive car, if you put half worn tyres on the front, especially in a torquey car like the 2.3T all you're going to do it sit a traffic lights spinning what's left of the rubber into the tarmac. Thos wheels at the front are having to do twice the work - grip, steer AND propel the car. Thus the better condition the tyres on them, the better.
