Subject: Re: skipping cd

I've come across this one before on a 9000, in that case it was the "worm drive" that winds the laser head up and down that was causing it. Nothing more than a clean was needed, it had all kinds of fluff and dust caught up in it, but it was enough to keep stopping the head from advancing across the disk. I took the unit out of the dash panel, popped the top cover off, used and spray electrical cleaner fluid on it, and repacked it with a *small* amount of petrolium jelly. I tracked it down to that component by shutting the volume right off, engine not running, and carefully listening to the mechanical noises from the unit, you could actually hear it clicking !
