I'd like to respectfully and gently submit that perhaps you should consult a different mechanic, preferably a dealer or a saab-specific independant. Your low boost is undoubtedly a result of his wastegate fiddling, the turbo whine isn't a big deal, and it may be a trivial matter of a bypass control valve or something to get things back to right. Then, the performance will be where you want it, and it's just a matter of deciding when the noise gets too bad, *or* the boost deteriorates. If your turbo were so bad that it was the cause of the bad boost, you'd be hearing ugly, grindy, scrapy, squealy noises. I'd suggest you take it someone else, have them set the base boost back to where it belongs (my guess of what your mechanic changed), and have them take a listen to the turbo. My '88 900T's turbo was noisy from about 200,000 miles to 247,000 miles when I traded it in on the 9-5, but the boost was just fine. You get tons of warning with them. Smoke, or gravelly noises, yeah, then start talking about a rebuilt unit. Dave Hinz --
