As you mentioned dictionaries, I referred to my Concise Oxford
Dictionary (electronic 9th Ed which I've had for maybe 5 years):
  "Jap // n. & adj. colloq. offens. = Japanese. [abbreviation]"
Ie:
  "...noun & adjective, colloquial, offensive..."
