The price was a snip and it'll be a > great car, so long as you "keep up to it" with the usual service issues. > I seem to get a feeling about a car. I bought a Skoda Estelle 10L for £95 that was in the loot "Spares or repair" section, with a week on the MOT, before I had passed my driving test. It needed a starter motor for £75 fitted by a garage, and £30 for welding and a rack boot to get through it's MOT, then later in the year I spent £240 on a full brake system overhaul, plus drive shaft seals because they were leaking into the drums. After one year of ownership, with 2 weeks on the MOT I sold it to a guy who came all the way up from Oxfordshire, paid £150 (even though it refused to start when he got there, and we needed to work on it for an hour (points, plugs, leads, fueling (found the points had welded shut in the end))). Althogether, excluding petrol and insurance, but including Tax, bits I had added like the old Celica seats and mountney wheel, set of 5 new Bf Goodrich Tyres, and a used set of Alloys that I refurbed, plus other welding I found after the MOT that needed doing, I reckon that car cost me less than £1000 for a years very cheap motoring excperience as a new driver. Before I sold that, I looked in loot again. Found a Favorit for £100, that had 10 months MOT. When I got there it had 6 months, needed a new windscreen, and the clutch felt ropey but the owner insisted it was fine. Bought, got the clutch and windscreen done for a combined cost of about £280, drove that from Last may to Now. Again, I've spent more on what I wanted, than what it needed. it needed new rear shoes, a Steering rack boot, and a service to pass the emissions for the last MOT (plus the exhaust system that found faults with OEM centre section for £35, and a Sebring Stainless backbox for £120 (yes I could have got powerfolw to build a full system for that I now know), and a battery because it was cranking a bit slow. I've since fitted bucket seats, sports steering wheel, gearknob, sports pedal covers, CD player, and 4 improved speakers, and height adjustable sports shocks, and uprated springs (probabley close to a grand again, but I can take them out and sell them seperatley if I can't get the Asking. Planning on asking £600 with all the bits in. or £300 for the original seats, wheel, no stereo, or rear speakers, but with custom kickpods with 5" 3 way pioneer speakers, and a very solid custom stealth shelf that will take 6x9 or 7x10 speakers, fully wired, with a din plug so you can detach the shelf for larger loads, the uprated suspension (doesn't look super low, but rides better (will described as new shocks and springs)), and the Sebring backbox. Both options come with Tax and MOT until November, so with all the new bits and the tax, someone can't lose as the Clutch and battery are still under warrenty, the engine has only done 52k miles, but the windscreen leaks in a touch, but the cowboys who fitted it said "Your girlfriend signed the reciept that she was happy, so that is the end of it". Could probably do something with silicon if I could find a day dry enough and warm enough for it to cure. And now the 900. And the fun is just begining. On full lock both sides I'm getting a bit of a grumble, so I reckon come MOT time, they will tell me the CVs need doing. If that is all, then It's still a bargain. -- Carl Robson The poster formally known as Skodapilot. http://www.bouncing-czechs.com
