Subject: Re: does modyfing the crankcase ventilation system do any harm?

Salutations: I don't think that is a good idea actually - although I will be frank and say that I both my bike and motor home have small filters in place at the crank vents - but both have carburettors and no airboxs.. It was explained to me that on closed loop port injection systems like our SAABs - the oil vapour provides a little lower stem lube for the intake valves and the engine management systems incorporate that blow by pressure from the block in addition to the primary pollution control function it is in place specifically for.. You can, for example, reduce the amount of seal leakage by running the crankcase as a direct vent like you are describing.. However - I'm not sure the engine management system isn't then adversely affected by the lack of pressure and things can get out of hand and start running through a lot of oil without knowing under high rev/temp conditions.. There is much debate on carburettor systems with regards the crankcase vent loop - big American iron like my motor home seem to stay cleaner through the intake system if you mount a simple mini filter to provide a little back pressure - but I'm not sure it is the same for the SAAB.. -- J Dexter - webmaster - http://www.dexterdyne.org/ all tunes - no cookies no subscription no weather no ads no news no phone in - RealAudio 8+ Required - all the Time Radio Free Dexterdyne Top Tune o'be-do-da-day ZZ Top - I'm Bad I'm Nationwide http://www.dexterdyne.org/888/176.RAM Simon Putz wrote: > > Hi, > > im wondering if removing the crankcase ventilation hose on top of the engine of my 9000T that goes to the intake manifold and to the air intake tube and plugging the ends does any harm to the engine. thought the engine would burn better and not get this oily smoke inside again and i also wouldnt have to clean the throttle body so often. also where does the other big hose that goes from the same plug in the intake manifold go to (somewhere to the wheel arch, but cant follow it to the end. > > bye > > simon
