KP,
Yes, the Saab lease programs are good if that is the way you choose to go. Leasing is very popular here in California and people do it for a variety of reasons. Saying that people who choose to purchase are "uninformed" comes across as inaccurate and some might percieve it as harsh and intolerant. I am sure that you 'mis-spoke' in your excitement over the great lease terms Saab is offering. You might want to keep in mind that for some folks they buy a car and keep it for ten years or more, can't be restricted to the milage limits imposed by a lease, realize that dealers can pad the price on the back end of a lease, want to have the freedom to customize their vehicle, can sell their car at any time, and their car becomes an asset versus a liability. It is all a matter of choices. I am glad that you are happy with yours.
As to the ignition switch question, I have had my new Saab for almost a month and it has not been a problem. Actually, both of us have found it to be very practical. The sliding armrest makes access to the rear window controls a little awkward, but nothing that has caused me a problem. Since I have been visiting this bulletin board, I have only seen one thread where someone actually turned the key off inadvertently. His wife was reaching around to the back seat and somehow her coat caught the key and managed to turn off the engine. They were not hurt as he just pulled over until they figured out what had happened. I believe this was a very unusual circumstance. It is the only one that I have every seen posted here.
I am very concerned that you are fumbliing with CD's, cell phone, drinks, etc. Let us hope that you are not doing this while driving!! There was a news report the other night of a woman who was killed while attempting to dial her cell phone. She missed seeing the red light and went right into the intersection. My 9-3SE has the OnStar system. When I want to use the phone, I push one button and everything else is voice activated. The mike is in the driver's side A pillar and the stereo system acts as the speaker. The SID display will say "Telephone". No taking my eyes off of the road. If your 9-5 is a 2001, it should have the OnStar sytem. If I don't want to miss a call over my mobile phone, I will forward it to my car's number. You might consider getting the 6 disc CD changer. Then, you can load up the CD's you want into the magazine and operate the stereo from the steering wheel controls. I have it in my car and it is great, especially on long road trips. I agree that the drink holders could be better. I am not comfortable using the in-dash holder right in front of the stereo and SID display. One spill in the wrong direction and oops. Hopefully, Saab is working on it.
