The design of the headliner is such that a thin foam lining is applied on the back of the fabric during construction. This foam aids in covering any imperfections in the sheet metal, and provides a smooth surface for the fabric. It is this foam material that breaks down over time. Two proper choices, one obtain a new headliner from SAAB, or have a local trim shop fabricate one.
