Subject: Re: Questions: 97 Saab SE Turbo

Hi Bill: I own a '96 Saab 900 S and have driven my boss' '97 Saab 900 SE Turbo. I've also driven a Countour SE (automatic, what a shame) with the V6. Can't speak for the A4 except to say it is one of the most beautiful modern cars I've ever seen. First, I prefer the Saabs for their steering, features, safety, and refinement. They do give up a little to the Ford in off the line power. Regarding the Saabs, the power difference with the turbo is substantial once you get off the line. The 1997 also shifts smoother due to a better shift linkage (1996 = cable, 1997 = mechanical). I could do without the extra creature comforts of the SE, although the auto climate control and better stereo are nice (I have leather in my 900 S). One thing you might consider is that for 1998 Saab is offering a 900S coupe with the turbo. You'll get great bang for the buck that way. Good luck, Chris scullynopsamltranet.com Bill Schaffel wrote: > I am considering purchasing a 97 Saab SE Turbo, or a 98 Audi A4 2.8L > FWD, or a 98 Ford Contour SVT. All are 5 speeds.
