Recently found a gas station that sells 92 octane gas for less than I was paying for the 89, so I'm now putting 92 in my 1991 turbo. Remember, now, I wasn't seeking to "max out" my performance. The car was already accelerating more than quickly enough to suit me. I wanted to get rid of the knock. The mechanic who advised the higher grade did tell me that the Saab engines are designed to sense -- and perform using -- any grade of fuel. Having said that, I do believe the car is a bit more responsive with the higher grade of fuel. I'm simply not a fast driver. Friends kidded me mercilessly about my 1985 turbo. "When you sell it," they'd say, "your ad should read 'turbo never used.'"
