Subject: Buying a new Saab, maybe.

Hi All, I'm in the market for a new car. I need to replace my '92 900 that is approaching 200k miles. I have been a faithful Saab owner for many years having owned 11 different Saabs over the years. But a recent Saab experience has left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth and I'm not sure if I want another bite. The last Saab I bought was a 1995 900 SE V6 4dr. This car was an absolute nightmare. The reliability was the worse of any car I've ever owned including a 1972 Pinto and 1975 Vega. The car was nice to drive, performed well, and looked pretty good. But it had to go after a full year of aggrevation. I traded it in on a 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee. When I bought my '92 I paid $18750 for the car. At the time, that was an outrageous value. Well equipped Honda Accord were going for $18-20k. With Saabs currently starting at $26k, I am not sure they are such a good value any more. Especially when the Audi A4 starts around $24k, the VW Passat around $21K, and the BMW 3 series around $22k. Heck, you can get a Mercedes C230 for around $30k. But now I have to replace my '92. I would like to hear from other owners of late model (97&98) Saab 900s. Have they been reliable? Do you like them? What did you compare them to when buying them. Do you feel they offer a good value? I just dont know about another Saab. Responsible replies would be very welcome. Thanks in advance, Tim
