Since the fan pulls in air, it also pulls in dust which invariably sticks to the sensor and fan. Since the dust acts to insulate the sensor, it can affect the operation of the ACC. Cleaning the sensor is fairly easy. Pop off the front cover to the sensor, and *carefully* remove the dust (try the tip of a slightly damp paper towel or Q-tip, but be gentle). Cleaning the motor is a bit more difficult, since the sensor assembly comes out the back side of the dashboard. To remove it, you must first pull out the climate control unit from the front of the dash (do not disconnect it), then reach through this hole and pull the temp sensor out from the back of the dash. It's probably easier to gently blow the dust off from the front if you can. This may or may not affect the 'whining' sound you hear. You can test the fan by holding a strip of tissue paper in front of the sensor to see if the fan sucks it up against the inlet. Good luck! Fred
