I have a '92 Saab 9000 S (manual) and there is a noise that's driving me mad, and over the last year it's got worse. It's a whining noise that gets higher pitched as the car gets faster. Doesn't matter which gear I'm in either. Putting the clutch in, or braking has no effect. It's not localised but it's coming from the front somewhere. The best way I can describe the sound is it's like someone blowing through a drinking-straw. But it's a mechanical whine, not wind noise. The faster the car goes, the higher pitched the whine becomes. The car's done nearly 100K miles. My thoughts are 1) a wheel bearing, but don't these rumble rather than whine ? 2) a worn differential. 3) Speedo cable ? Has anybody come across this before with a 9000 ? I'd be really, really grateful for any suggestions :-) David. -- Antispam. To reply to me by email, remove the "z"
