Make sure the oiler plastic pieces on the cam oil feeders are sealing into the cam bearing caps. They have an o ring which gets hard and shrinks over the years. Replacing the 11 pieces maintains oil in the head better and allows less air to enter the system and get in the lifters. 88 was a split year, some having the tubes and later engines drilled internally for the oil passages and do not have the oil tubes or the problem as often. A quality filter and oil of the correct viscosity helps as well.
