All Saab 900's headlights extinguish with the ignition. Why all manufacturers dont do this is a complete mystery to me. VWs also do this. I never turn off my headlights. > >2. I know 900s have wipers on the headlights, but do they have washers >(squirters), too? and how does one activate them, ii've never seen the control. Not all 900s have headlight wipers. They became standard on all 900s in either '91 or '92. They were on the earlier turbo and S models only. They do have washers built in and they are activated when you use the windsheild washers. There is no seperate switch for them. And, they are really great in sloppy winter driving conditions. Everytime I use them, it looks like I just switched on the hi-beams. > >3. How reliable is a 900 without turbo and with a 5-speed stick? (in comparison >to say, a 1986 Volvo 740 (also non-turbo)) The cars, if maintained properly are quite reliable. Repairs can be costly and they must have their scheduled maintenance performed religiously. The turbo is also very reliable. High mileage is very common on Saab cars. I've never had a problem with a 5speed. > >4. any other comments on saabs (i am looking at early 80's 900's mainly, but if i come across a nice 99 or a cheap later 900...) would be appreciated, as I am >seriously considering making a Saab my first car... picked Saab because they are safe and they have some cool features that volvo 240's (my other consideration) don't have... > I love the cars, and always have. They are uniquely quirky and perform very well. A great combo, for sure. >--Thanks > Joe > >
