Evan- A firm shift is a bonus--usually means the transmission will last longer<g>. Chenge the fluid yearly--or after changing to synthetic ATF all the way through, about every 45,000 miles. Be sure to check the level of the gear lube in the final drive relatively often. It can seep out the seals, and you won't see any drips.
