On our '88 9000T, I found that one of the pins on the A/C compressor relay (got to remove the glove compartment fuse shelf, and it's behind there) was burnt. This was pin #31 I think; it carries current to the clutch. My guess was that this prevented the clutch from engaging, so of course, no A/C. I write "guess", because although I bought the new relay, I still haven't had the time to replace it; I want to clean the socket carefully before popping the new relay in. In any case, besides leaving me wonder why the A/C was so crappy, it turned out that this was the cause of an occasional surge in engine idle speed, that turned into a continuously high idle (around 1250 rpm) when the A/C completely stopped cooling, due to the electronics sensing that the compressor was being run, and raising the engine idle speed to compensate. -- Ken Bell :: kenbellnopsamx.com :: (212) 475-4976 (voice)
