Extended warranties are the same gamble as insurance... you may get more than your mony's worth, but the odds are stacked in the vendors favour. You're generally better off taking the $500-$1,000 that you would have spent on the warranty and throwing it into a GIC (or whatever Americans throw money into) and sit and collect a bit of interest on it. If emergency repairs come up, you'll have the money to pay for them... if they don't come up, you'll have the money, plus more, to pay for something else.
