I have an 85 900 Turbo and an 88 900s. Your engine temperature is not normal! Your temperature gauge should rise to mid-scale and the cooling fans should kick in and reduce the coolant temperature. The first place I would check would be the cooling fans, do they come on when standing still and idling. If the cooling fans are cycling properly then I would replace the thermostat. Of course this is based on the assumption that you have a full coolant system which includes the "expansion tank" which is really a pressurized part of the system.
