I just replaced the front muffler on my 94 900 set (90k miles). The dealer sold me a lifetime guaranteed unit for a 15% discounted price of $170. I was dreading the job, since I hate to do exhaust work, but was pleasantly surprised to see that Saab has engineered wonderful exhaust fittings that don't require you to slide one part into the other-- always a pain when installing a new component into an old one. The mating joints fell right apart as soon as I undid the clamps, and sealed perfectly as soon as I tightened the old clamp up. What a joy! The whole job took all of 1/2 hour, which included jacking up the car and taking off a wheel to better access things! If they charged you more than an hour's labor, you got ripped! I would be curious what the total job cost.
