Martin - You had that 88 900i for 10 years, and what you had to replace is about par for a lot of cars. In fact one clutch in 10 years is outstanding. One exhaust system in 10 years is better than average. Water pumps and radiators are par for the course. My 83 900T went through two water pumps and one radiator and two clutches in 13 yearws. If all you had to replace is one set of front brakes pads and rotors in 10 years that is amazing. You say the car was serviced every 6000 miles. I wonder how often the oil in the 5 spd was changed, and I don't know about the recommendations in the UK, but here in the States, anybody who expects their engine to last changes the oil and filter every 3000 miles, 5000 miles on a push. My 83 900T had 195,234 miles before I screwed it up with Slick 50. The replacement engine and the original transmission lasted to over 251,00, when the car was hit and totalled. I'd say for 10 years you did not do that badly. Just ask some BMW, Volvo, Audi, Ford and Cadillac people what they went through in the mid 80's and 90's. Ken Washington 87 9000s
