I bought an 88 model 900i new from Saab (my second Saab). Today it died with blown big end bearings - cost to rebuild about $3000! Over the past 10 years I have had to replace the clutch, two starter motors, one transmission gearbox pinion bearing (listen out for the whine at speed in 5th gear), one engine cooling radiator, one complete exhaust system, one water pump, a head gasket, two turn indicator switches, a radio, a battery, one front windscreen (windshield) and both front brake discs. Reliable - no way. The car was always serviced at 6000 mile intervals, and was never mistreated but it let me down badly and often. My sisters 87 Saab 9000 turbo gave similar poor reliability. Buy another Saab? No way. -- Martin Robertson martinnopsambertson.demon.co.uk
